TESLA BODY SHOP
& COLLISION REPAIR DFW
Most shops in DFW refuse Tesla work. We don't. Model 3, Model Y, Model S, Model X — we repair them right.
Why Tesla Is Different
Teslas Need a Specific Kind of Body Shop
A Tesla is not a repair job any shop can handle. Three things separate a Tesla-capable shop from a general body shop — and if a shop doesn't have all three, they shouldn't be touching your car.
First, aluminum. Teslas use aluminum body panels (and in the case of Model S and X, almost entirely aluminum construction). Aluminum requires specialized repair tools — aluminum-dedicated rivet guns, dent pullers, MIG welders calibrated for aluminum — and those tools cannot cross-contaminate with steel work. Steel particles embedded into aluminum panels cause galvanic corrosion, which causes structural failure. A shop doing Tesla work in the same bay as steel repair is setting up a time-bomb failure 2-5 years down the road.
Second, high-voltage safety. Teslas run 400V (and 800V on newer models) battery systems. Improperly disconnecting or handling the HV system during collision repair can kill a technician or destroy the battery pack (which can run $15,000+ to replace). Technicians working on Teslas need I-CAR EV safety training — specifically the high-voltage disable, lockout-tagout, and thermal monitoring procedures.
Third, OEM repair procedures. Tesla publishes service manuals that document exactly how each panel should be repaired, replaced, welded, or sectioned — and these procedures are different from traditional body repair. Cold riveting instead of welding on certain joints. Structural adhesive instead of spot welds. Specific primer systems for aluminum. A shop winging it on a Tesla isn't "close enough" — they're introducing failure modes Tesla's engineers specifically designed the car to avoid.
DG Collision Center has all three: a dedicated isolated aluminum bay, I-CAR Gold Class certification (including aluminum and EV training), and OEM procedure access for every Tesla model we repair. Tesla ownership is particularly dense in Plano (the corporate-HQ tech corridor centered on Legacy West and Toyota Motor North America — West Plano ranks among the highest-EV-density zip codes in Texas), Frisco (the tech-corridor luxury fleet centered around The Star, PGA Frisco, and Stonebriar), Flower Mound, Highland Village, and Southlake — but we regularly see Model 3, Model Y, Model S, and Model X customers from across the DFW metroplex, including Carrollton, Coppell, Grapevine, Denton, Little Elm, Prosper, Argyle, Trophy Club, Roanoke, and Dallas/Fort Worth proper. Models We Repair
TESLA REPAIR FOR EVERY MODEL
From the Model 3 that took a parking-lot hit to the Model S with a full front-end rebuild — we've done them all.
Tesla Model 3 Collision Repair
The most common Tesla we repair. Aluminum front fenders, hood, and rear quarter panels paired with steel unibody structure. Popular damage areas: front bumper cover, hood, rear bumper from parking-lot incidents. Typical repair 1-2 weeks. Pearl White Multi-Coat (PPSW) is the trickiest color — we match it with spectrophotometer and blend coats.
Tesla Model Y Collision Repair
Same platform as Model 3 but taller crossover. Large panel surface area makes hail damage more common. Falcon-door-free design simplifies rear-end repair compared to Model X. Repair times and cost similar to Model 3. Most popular colors in DFW: Pearl White, Midnight Silver, Deep Blue.
Tesla Model S Aluminum Repair
Fully aluminum body — every exterior panel. Tesla's flagship sedan demands the most rigorous aluminum repair discipline. Model S 2021+ Plaid models add carbon-fiber trim which needs its own repair protocols. Full body color palette including Midnight Silver Metallic (PMSS) and Deep Blue Metallic (PMNG). Repair times 2-4 weeks.
Tesla Model X Body Repair
Falcon wing doors require specialized disassembly, sensor recalibration, and realignment procedures. All-aluminum body like Model S. Falcon door sensors and actuators cost thousands to replace — we inspect before replacing and repair when possible. Common repair: roof/upper side panels after low-speed front or rear collisions.
Tesla Cybertruck Collision Repair
Full in-house Cybertruck repair. The 30X cold-rolled stainless steel exoskeleton requires panel-replacement procedures rather than traditional bodywork — we follow Tesla's published Cybertruck OEM procedures and source panels directly from Tesla with our direct warehouse access. Common repairs: corner panel damage from parking impacts, windshield replacement, hood and tailgate alignment, sensor and ADAS recalibration, trim and glass.
Tesla Paint-Only Work
Didn't have a collision but need paint work on your Tesla? Clear coat restoration, scratch repair, bumper scuff refinish, single-panel repaint — all handled with the same spectrophotometer discipline as full collision refinish. See our paint page for full paint services.
4 Challenges Unique to Tesla
WHAT MAKES TESLA REPAIR COMPLICATED
Understanding these four problems will tell you whether the shop you're considering is actually qualified.
Aluminum Cross-Contamination
Steel dust from ordinary body repair bonds to aluminum panels and causes galvanic corrosion that eats through the structure from the inside. A shop without an isolated aluminum bay will damage your car even if they repair the visible problem correctly.
HV Battery Safety
400V/800V battery systems need proper disconnection, lockout, and thermal monitoring during repair. Incorrect handling can kill a technician or destroy the battery pack ($15,000+ replacement cost). Requires I-CAR EV-specific training.
ADAS & Sensor Recalibration
Tesla Autopilot cameras, ultrasonic sensors, and radar need precise recalibration after any collision that disturbs bumper covers, pillars, or windshield. Miscalibrated sensors degrade Autopilot accuracy and can create dangerous driving assumptions.
Pearl White Paint Match
Tesla's Pearl White Multi-Coat is a three-stage tri-coat with angle-dependent pearl particles. Formula match alone isn't enough — needs spectrophotometer verification against the actual vehicle plus blend coats into adjacent panels.

The Hardest Color in Auto Paint
TESLA PEARL WHITE MULTI-COAT
Why Tesla's Pearl White Multi-Coat (color code PPSW) is the most difficult production paint to match — and how we handle it.
Tesla Pearl White Multi-Coat is a three-stage tri-coat system. A traditional paint has two layers — color basecoat + clear coat. Pearl White has three: basecoat, a mid-coat containing pearl particles, and clear coat. The pearl particles create angle-dependent color shift: from one angle the panel reads pure white, from another it reads with a subtle warm shimmer. This is intentional — it's what makes the color look premium. It's also what makes it nearly impossible to match with formula alone.
The typical failure mode: a shop pulls Tesla color code PPSW from their paint database, mixes the basecoat formula, sprays the panel, and calls it done. The color matches under ideal lighting — but rotate the car 30 degrees and the repaired panel reads slightly different from the adjacent panel. The customer sees it. The dealer sees it. Carfax doesn't care, but it affects resale because buyers notice.
Our process is different. We use a spectrophotometer (X-Rite MA-T12 or PPG RapidMatch) to read the actual color on your vehicle — which matters because Pearl White fades subtly under Texas sun over 2-5 years. We generate a spray formula calibrated to your car's current color, not a factory-new reference. Then we apply the basecoat with blend coats into adjacent panels — spraying a light feather of color past the repair edge into neighboring panels — so any color shift happens inside an already-painted panel rather than at a visible edge. The mid-coat pearl layer gets the same blend treatment. Then 2K urethane clear over everything and a full booth bake cycle.
The result: you can rotate the car under any light and not see the repair. That's the benchmark. We've done this on dozens of Pearl White Teslas.

WHAT TESLA REPAIR COSTS
Real ranges from Tesla work we've done. Tesla repair runs 20-40% higher than comparable gas-powered (internal combustion engine, or ICE) vehicle repair because of aluminum costs, OEM parts, and sensor recalibration.
Going through insurance? Collision, comprehensive hail, and vandalism claims typically cover Tesla repair. Most insurance carriers use OEM parts on Teslas per Texas law and policy terms. If you have Tesla Insurance, we handle those claims directly too.

WHAT DFW TESLA OWNERS SAY
They fixed my Tesla Model 3 after a hit-and-run. Most shops in DFW wouldn't even quote it. Paint match on the Pearl White is flawless. They did the work the way Tesla's procedures specify and I didn't lose any resale value.
PDR on my Tesla Model Y after a hail storm. Aluminum panels look untouched. 4-day turnaround. Zero shops I called would even quote the job. DG just said "bring it in."
Bumper scuff refinish on my wife's Model S. Tri-coat pearl white is notoriously hard to match and they nailed it. 2-day turnaround too.
Had my Model X repaired after a parking lot hit. Falcon wing door alignment came back perfect. They handled the Tesla Insurance claim directly — I didn't lift a finger.
I called 5 body shops in DFW. Only 2 said they'd quote a Tesla repair, only 1 (DG) had the aluminum bay and actually knew Tesla OEM procedures. No-brainer.
Front bumper replacement on my Model 3 Performance. Sensor recalibration done correctly — Autopilot came back online with no warnings. Most shops skip this step.

Tesla Repair Questions
TESLA FAQ
Tesla Repair Terminology
TESLA REPAIR GLOSSARY
The terms you'll hear on your estimate and from your adjuster.
- HV System (electrical)
- High-Voltage battery and drive system operating at 400V (older Teslas) or 800V (Cybertruck, newer models). Requires proper disconnect and lockout before collision repair begins. Technicians need I-CAR EV safety training. Contact with live HV circuits can kill.
- Aluminum Bay (facility)
- A physically isolated work area dedicated to aluminum-only repair. Prevents steel particles from ordinary body repair from contaminating aluminum panels, which causes galvanic corrosion. Aluminum-specific tools (rivet guns, MIG welders, dent pullers) stay in this bay and never cross to steel work.
- Tri-Coat / Multi-Coat (paint)
- A three-stage paint system used for Tesla Pearl White Multi-Coat (PPSW) and Red Multi-Coat (PPMR). Basecoat, then a mid-coat containing pearl or color-shift particles, then clear coat. Requires spectrophotometer matching and blend coats to reproduce correctly.
- ADAS (safety)
- Advanced Driver Assistance Systems — Tesla Autopilot cameras, ultrasonic sensors, radar, and (in newer vehicles) Vision-only perception. Requires recalibration after most collision work. Miscalibrated sensors degrade Autopilot accuracy.
- OEM Repair Procedures (process)
- Tesla's published service manual instructions for repairing each panel, joint, and system. Specifies cold riveting vs welding, adhesive types, primer systems, torque specs, and refinish requirements. Shops without OEM procedure access are guessing — and guessing on a Tesla creates structural failure modes.
- Spectrophotometer (tool)
- X-Rite MA-T12 or PPG RapidMatch handheld color reader. Reads the actual wavelength characteristics of paint on your vehicle and generates a matched formula. Essential for Tesla Pearl White Multi-Coat because formula-match from color code alone misses pearl particle behavior.
- Blend Coat (technique)
- Spraying a light feather of basecoat and mid-coat paint into adjacent panels (not full coverage) so any color-shift difference happens inside already-painted area rather than at a visible panel edge. Essential for Tesla tri-coat colors and metallics.
- Falcon Wing Door (Model X)
- Tesla Model X's upward-opening rear passenger doors. Contains sensors, actuators, and a complex hinge assembly that requires specialized disassembly procedures and recalibration after repair. Damaged falcon doors are often more expensive to replace than to repair — but require the right shop.
- Tesla Insurance (coverage)
- Tesla's in-house insurance product available in Texas since 2021. Uses Tesla's own claim system via the Tesla app. Tesla Insurance has preferred shops but — per Texas law — cannot restrict your choice of repair facility.
